Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders was once again critical of the defence after losing 3-1 at Portsmouth.

Saunders was critical last week after conceding three at home to Leeds United and he once again criticised what he said was ‘Sunday morning defending.` Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Saunders said, “You can`t concede goals like that. The first goal is something you see on a Sunday morning. A ridiculous goal to concede from our point of view.
“I`m just really disappointed, I thought they showed more desire than us and that is something I am not used too. It`s just disappointing really that we have conceded three terrible goals and now we have got to come in on Monday and roll our sleeves up and plough on. We`ve had three defeats and we have to try and turn it around.”

Doncaster made the worst possible start, conceding inside three minutes when Portsmouth striker Luke Varney was able to get in behind the defence and fire the home side ahead.

Simon Gillett got Doncaster back on level terms before half time with a superb strike from the edge of the area.

The hard work was undone in the second half when David Norris found plenty of space inside the Doncaster area and Dave Kitson bundled his goal bound effort in.

The Doncaster defence was at sixes and sevens for the third goal when Varney was allowed to tap in with the defence all at sea.

The defeat is Doncaster`s third in a row after a promising start under Saunders.
