On loan Chelsea midfielder Jordan Houghton says he is open to making the move to Doncaster Rovers a permanent one in the summer after extending his loan deal at the club.

Houghton extended his loan at Doncaster until the end of the season but he turned down a permanent move despite the two clubs agreeing a deal.

Despite turning down a permanent move in January, Houghton admits he is open to the move in the summer once he is sure it is the right move for him at this stage in his career.

“Options are limited in midfield at the moment and the manager was keen to get me back, so I think the loan was the best option for everyone,” Houghton told the Doncaster Rovers official website.

“All parties had Saturday`s game in mind, it would be my first permanent move so I had to make sure it was right for everyone around me. I’m definitely open to it, though.

‘Signing permanently rather than on loan is a big commitment, it means relocating fully up here, which I am willing to do, but just didn’t want to be rushed.”

Houghton spent most of last season on loan at Doncaster before a serious knee injury forced his return to Chelsea in February.

He returned to the Keepmoat in August on a short-term deal until January back in August after returning to full fitness and he has been a regular in the Doncaster side since his return.

Houghton is out of contract at Chelsea in the summer.
