DRFC – Heffernan to leave?

Paul Heffernan could be about to leave Rovers according to reports from Sky sports, a number of League One clubs have been reported to have shown an interest including Yorkshire clubs Leeds and Huddersfield.

The popular centre forward had to miss the first game of the season after completing a three match ban for his petulant sending off at Southend in the play offs last season.
Maybe that sending off could have infuriated the manager who no longer wants him as parts of his plans at the club.

The Irishman`s only appearance so far was in the Carling cup defeat at Notts County.

With the arrival to the club of Darren Byfield along with the form of Lewis Guy, Heffernan`s chances of first team football could be limited.

Since joining the club in 2005 the striker has had quite a few spells out through injury but his form when in the team has been excellent which won him the player`s player of the season in 2006/07.

In 74 starts for the club he`s managed an impressive return of 34 goals and was influential in Rovers winning their first major competition in 2007 the Johnstones Paint Trophy, which included four goals in the semi final and one in the final.

I really hope Rovers can hang on to Heffernan as he could still have a huge part to play in Rovers first season in the Championship.
We need a squad of quality players and Paul Heffernan definitely falls into that category.
