They have met on 31 previous occasions, with Rovers winning 13, Bury 10 and 8 have been drawn.
The first ever encounter came during the 1935/36 season when Rovers won 1-0 in a Second Division clash.
The two sides met in twice in the space of a week at Belle Vue in the 1972/73 season with Rovers winning 3-1 in a FA Cup first round clash before going one better with a 4-1 win a week later in a Fourth Division clash.
Unbelievably, when they met at Gigg Lane four months later, Bury won 5-0.
They last met on the opening day of the 2015/16 season in a game that had a controversial finish.
The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw when Harry Forrester lobbed Bury goalkeeper Christian Walton. Forrester was looking to pass the ball back to the visiting goalkeeper after the ball had been put out to allow an injured player treatment. Instead, his attempted pass back sailed over Walton and into the goal.
Forrester quickly held his hands up and after a lengthy discussion on the sidelines, Doncaster allowed Leon Clarke to walk the ball in from the kick-off.
