Doncaster Rovers made the perfect start to 2012 with a 2-0 home win over local neighbours Barnsley at the Keepmoat.

The win makes it three in a row on home soil and moves them off the foot of the championship table.

It was nothing more than Rovers deserved with Barnsley offering little in attack.

Rovers were dealt a blow going into the game with El Hadji Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda both out with reoccurrences of the injuries that kept them out for prior to Christmas.

Goalkeeper David Button replaced Gary Woods in goal after signing on loan from Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

James Hayter gave Rovers the lead on fifteen minutes when slotted home after a good ball into the middle by Billy Sharp.

Kyle Bennett wrapped up the points for Rovers when his shot beat Steele from just inside the area.

The win moves Rovers back into 23rd place with Coventry losing at West Ham.

Nottingham Forest remain ahead of Rovers after winning at Ipswich Town.
