Well done to Port Vale who wanted to win the game. I am not going to do a detailed report, because if the players can’t be bothered then I don’t see why I should. Only Blayney, McDaid , Ravenhill and Heffernan performed on the night.

Blayney impressed on his debut. His distribution was excellent and looked very good at dealing with crosses.

McDaid had yet another solid performance. We badly missed Stephen Roberts. Fenton and Albrighton were at fault for the first goal, with neither of them taking responsibility. As for the second goal, Foster should have taken care of the cross that went to the un-marked Vale striker on the edge of the box.

The Rovers midfield was Ricky Ravenhill. The other three (Mulligan, Thornton and McIndoe) did nothing all night. Ricky was the Rovers man of the match, and he worked hard all night winning tackles and hardly lost the ball and created a number of chances for others. Mulligan decided to hide on the wing and McIndoe did not beat his man all night. Thornton was deeper then both Foster and Albrighton and all he did was pass the ball square to either full-back. Thornton is in the side to create, and he is not doing it. He moaned last week when he was dropped, and he had a chance to prove a point to the manager but he failed. Does Sean only come out to play when SKY are watching?

Heffernan worked his socks off and was rewarded with an excellent goal. The local paper has reported that Lewis Guy broke his foot in the match. Great, another broken bone! The lack of goals from young Lewis is now becoming a problem, although no one can fault his effort.

We only have 15 pros available for next Saturday’s home league match against Chesterfield. Penney must strengthen the squad this week.
