Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders said he felt the side played really well in the 3-0 win at Preston North End.

Rovers avenged the 3-0 defeat at the Keepmoat back in October with a clinical performance at Deepdale.

“I thought we played really well, especially in the first half,” Saunders told Radio Sheffield.

Rovers were in front inside a minute when David Syers saw his looping shot go in off the far post and the lead was doubled when David Cotterill scored direct from a free kick and Saunders said both goals were something they had been working on in training. “We played really well and scored two great goals. We have been working on the first goal from the corner and the second goal was also something we have been working on with David Cotterill. I didn`t expect him to put it in the top corner but it was a great delivery,” continued Saunders.

Billy Paynter ensured the points would be coming back across the Pennines to Yorkshire when he fired home from the penalty spot with fifteen minutes remaining.

The win for Rovers makes it six points from six on their travels over the festive period, having won at Oldham Athletic on Boxing Day.

Rovers can now look forward to a crunch South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United at the Keepmoat on New Year`s Day.

The two sides are level on points going into the game and Rovers will be hoping to take some of their away form into the game at the Keepmoat.

Whilst Rovers have now gone eleven games undefeated away from home, equalling a club record, they have won just two of their last five at home.

The game will see a good crowd inside the Keepmoat with Sheffield United expecting to bring over 4,000 fans to the game.
