Dean Saunders saw his Doncaster Rovers side write themselves into the clubs history books with a 3-0 win at Preston North End.

The win at Preston equalled a club record eleven away games without a defeat, matching that of the side in the 1946/47 season.

Rovers never looked back after David Syers had given Rovers the lead inside one minute. It was the midfielder`s second goal in two games.

David Cotterill scored his ninth of the season on the half hour and a Billy Paynter penalty with fifteen minutes remaining secured another crucial three points.

The win at Preston made it six points from six over the festive period after winning at Oldham Athletic on Boxing Day and it sets them up nicely for the New Year`s Day clash with Sheffield United at the Keepmoat.

The blades were surprisingly beaten 3-2 at home by bottom of the table Hartlepool United and the sides go into the game on Tuesday on level points.

Tranmere went back to the top of League One with a 1-0 home win over Scunthorpe United.

Sheffield United are second and Rovers are third but they are only separated by goal difference with Rovers also having a game in hand.
