Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson is set to make wholesale changes to his side for the Checkatrade Trophy clash at Grimsby Town.

New rules in the competition mean clubs can now change the squad more freely with players who have made over 40 appearances allowed to replace regulars in the side.

Marko Marosi, Craig Alcock, Tyler Garratt, Issam Ben Khemis, Rodney Kongolo, Liam Mandeville, Andy Williams and Alfie Beestin are all pushing for a start.

Matty Blair is expected to be rested after suffering a head injury in the game at AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

Ross Etheridge, Luke McCullough, Mathieu Baudry and Alex Kiwomya all remain sidelined for Doncaster through injury.

Grimsby can call upon Cameron Jones and Danny Collins. The pair are both currently serving suspensions in the league but the suspensions are not included in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Ben Davies will also return to the squad having completed a domestic ban.

Scott Vernon is close to a return for the mariners after suffering with a calf injury.

Akwasi Asante, Jamey Osborne and Sean McAllister all remain sidelined for Grimsby.
