Former Doncaster Rovers, Aberdeen and Liverpool goalkeeper John Ogston has recently died at the age of 78.

The goalkeeper spent three seasons at Belle Vue helping the side win the Fourth Division title under Lawrie McMenemy in 1968/69.

Ogston started his career with his hometown club Aberdeen where he spent eight-years. Ogston, who was nicknamed ‘Tubby` due to his large frame, once played every game for Aberdeen during a four-year spell spanning 164 games.

His form at Aberdeen saw him earn a move to First Division Liverpool in 1965 but he couldn`t displace Tommy Lawrence in the Liverpool goal, making just one appearance.

He initially joined Doncaster on loan from Anfield in the summer of 1968. He made 31 appearances for Doncaster in their Fourth Division title winning season, making the move permanent the following summer. Ogston made 38 appearances the following season but after just one appearance in the 1970/71 season, he returned to Scotland.

He moved around the Highland League over the next three years before eventually retiring in 1974.

Ogston died on August 16th and our condolences go to his friends and family.
