Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov is still hoping to sort out a new deal with Richie Wellens despite reports he is on the verge of signing for Queens Park Rangers.
Wellens is now out of contract at the Keepmoat and reports on Friday suggest the 33-year-old midfielder is set to join championship promotion chasers QPR.
Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Dickov said, “I don`t know anything about the Queens Park Rangers rumours.
“I spoke with Richie on Saturday morning and he didn`t mention QPR. I have heard the rumours but I have not heard anything else.
“I have said all along, I want Richie to stay, he wants to stay and hopefully we can sort things out.
“I just hope we can sort something out early next week and hopefully we can get the deal done.”
Wellens had to watch from the sidelines on Saturday as Rovers crashed out of the FA Cup to Stevenage.
The defeat to Stevenage means they can now concentrate on their championship survival and they will be desperate to keep hold of Wellens.
