Blackpool Vs Rovers

It was a tad chilly over on the North West coast and the pitch looked dreadful. Yet, on the back of the derby win, optimism seemed high. That was until we realised Jason Price had not signed in time, which left us without a right winger and forced Dave Penney into playing an unfamiliar 4-3-3. The first half was not long underway when Guy was booked for ‘diving’ in the box. It seemed totally unjustified, Guy did not appeal for a penalty, he just fell over.

Blackpool took the lead through woeful defending from Mark Albrighton, having his worst game for the club since the terrible LDV tie at Cambridge. Rovers equalised through a Macca penalty, and the Blackpool player could have walked. However, it was soon Rovers who were lucky not to be down to ten men when the ref decided against giving Guy a second booking.

Blackpool then scored two in quick succession as the Rovers defence fell apart yet again. The first looked like a push on Paul Green but Rovers should have been stronger. The second, to put Blackpool 3-1 up by half time saw both Albrighton and Lee miss tackles to let Parker for Blackpool in.

Heffernan was replaced by Leo Fortune West at Half Time after struggling with an injury. However, Rovers continued where they had left off, with poor pass after poor pass, big hoof after big hoof and missed tackle and missed tackle. It was no surprise when Blackpool made it 4-1 and a large number of the Rovers following headed for home. Dave Mulligan replaced Lewis Guy and later, Thornton came on for McDaid. Rovers slightly upped the tempo in the last few minutes of the game and were rewarded with another goal, McCormack slotted home to reduce the embarrasment a little.

An absolutely awful display by Rovers.
