Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll felt that his side had done enough to take all three points with their first half display against Bristol City, but he was far from happy with the response after going a goal down.
O`Driscoll had to thank Billy Sharp for scoring an injury time equaliser to claim a point in a 1-1 draw.
Speaking on the BBC website, O`Driscoll said, ‘I thought we were the better side by far in the first half. All the things you want your players to do we were doing.’
Rovers fell to the sucker punch in the opening five minutes of the second half when Stewart headed in for the visitors.
It took until the final twenty minutes for Rovers to find any of their first half form; it was only after O`Driscoll introduced James Coppinger to the game, from the bench, that Rovers started to get a foothold back in the game.
O`Driscoll felt that both the side and the fans was disappointing after City took the lead, ‘I was disappointed with the reaction from everybody – players and crowd – after they scored,” he continued.
Rovers salvaged a point in the final minute of normal time when club record signing Billy Sharp held his nerve to beat England goalkeeper David James from the penalty spot.
O`Driscoll was delighted with Sharp`s equalising goal, and showed just whey Rovers spent over £1 million on him during the summer, ‘Billy Sharp showed what he’s made of with the equaliser from the penalty spot. There was a lot of pressure on him to score against the England keeper in the last minute but he stuck it in like a man who was very determined,” O`Driscoll continued.
The goal is Sharp`s first of the season and O`Driscoll will be hoping that he can beat the fifteen he scored last season whilst on loan at the Keepmoat from Sheffield United.
