Doncaster Rovers boss and former Manchester United player Darren Ferguson admits he wished he was pulling on his boots for the South Yorkshire derby against Rotherham United today.

Ferguson takes his Doncaster side to a sell-out New York City Stadium for a first league clash in 12-years and the former midfielder, who made over 500 career appearances, is looking forward to the clash.

“These are the ones where I wish I was playing again! Honestly, I`d love to play on Saturday, I`d absolutely love to,” Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield
ahead of the game.

“A full house with 2,500 fans of ours.

“A proper game and the early part will be blood and thunder.

“I`m really looking forward to it and so are the players. You can sense that.

“It`s one we`ve spoken about, to look forward to it and relish. These are the games you want to play in.”

Ferguson will be hoping to build on the sides first win of 2018 last weekend. After enjoying a productive festive period, Doncaster eased their relegation fears with a 3-0 win against Fleetwood Town last time out.

He takes his side to an inform Rotherham side who have won six on the bounce and they are unbeaten since early December but form will go out of the window in a derby match.
