When the two sides met earlier in the season they score also finished 2-2 in a pulsating game. Rovers led 2-0 thanks to goals from Martin Woods and Billy Sharp. The game changed with just over twenty minutes remaining when Rovers had John Oster sent off and Scunthorpe pulled a goal back shortly afterwards through Cliff Byrne.
It was to get worse for Rovers when they had their second player of the afternoon sent off when Quentin Fortune was given his marching orders.
It looked like Rovers were going to hang onto the three points until deep into injury time when Scunthorpe were awarded a penalty for handball. Grant McCann beat Neil Sullivan in the Rovers goal to earn the home side a share of the spoils.
