Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov says he was happy to get the three points after an eventful evening at the Keepmoat against Watford.

Rovers won 2-1 thanks to an injury time winner from Billy Sharp but that only told half the story of a game that saw a red card, a stonewall penalty shout missed that would have meant another red card and Sharp`s late strike.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Dickov said, “It had a bit of everything with a goal in the last minute. It was a feisty game and I am just happy to get the three points.

“The six points from these two games is massive for us after the disappointment at Bournemouth.”

Watford had started the game on the front foot but the game changed inside twenty minutes when Watford striker Mathias Ranegie was shown a straight red card for kicking out at James Husband.

Rovers made their numerical advantage pay almost straight away when Chris Brown headed them ahead.

Despite being down to ten-men, Watford finished the half well and only referee Chris Sarginson will know why it wasn`t a penalty when Rovers goalkeeper Sam Johnstone clearly pulled Watford striker Troy Deeney to the ground.

Watford started the second half brightly and they had already gone close to equalising when Alexander Merkel saw his free-kick hit the crossbar when Ikechi Anya got in behind the Rovers defence to fire home

Rovers piled the pressure on looking for a winner after the equaliser. Just when it looked like they would have to settle for a point, Sharp reacted quickest after Mark Duffy saw his shot parried by Jonathan Bond to fire Rovers to a crucial three points.

It was a good night for Rovers as the teams around them at the bottom all lost and Rovers are now seven points clear of the relegation zone.
