Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger looks set to miss the rest of the season after the club confirmed he had fractured his cheekbone.

Coppinger suffered the injury after a late challenge and clash of heads with Bristol City player Yannick Bolasie inside the opening twenty minutes of the game at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Bolasie escaped without a caution from referee Fred Graham but both Rovers manager Dean Saunders and chairman John Ryan have condemned the challenge, With Ryan saying he is taking legal advice regarding the incident.

Coppinger was taken to a local Bristol hospital but was allowed to travel home with the rest of the squad.

The midfielder will go into hospital on Friday for an operation.
