Transfer target Gareth McAuley has turned down a £150,00 move to Crewe. The Lincoln centre-half, is one of many rumoured players that Dave Penney is supposedly looking at.

The Northern Ireland international was expected to sign for the Railwaymen today after the two clubs agreed a fee, but he could not agree personal terms with the club and is now back at Sincil Bank.

On last nights BBC Radio Sheffield phone-in, Penney gave a strong hint that he would be doing some shopping in Sheffield. Of course Dave could be going to Meadowhall to buy something for his wife and children, or he could be looking at purchasing some players that Sheffield Wednesday have made available. The Owls have informed Richard Evans, Lee Peacock and Paul Heckingbottom that they will not have their contracts re-newed at the end of the current campaign, whilst Graeme Lee and Craig Rocastle have been told to find other clubs.

Across the City, Sheffield United have a few players that may have caught Penney’s eye. Paul Shaw and Liam Nalis would both add experience to the Rovers squad.

Other names rumoured to be joining the red and white wizards include Rory Fallon and Chris Brown.
