Doncaster Rovers midfielder David Syers says the club have a great chance next season if they can tie down the out of contract players to new deals as well as add a few quality signings.

Syers is one of only eight players currently under contract at the Keepmoat with nine players who helped the side win the League One title last season all being offered new deals by new boss Paul Dickov.

Rovers report back for training on Monday and Syers says it is important to get the deals sorted out.

Speaking on Sky Sports News , Syers said, ‘The few names bandied around are exciting prospects and it just shows the leap we’ve made in coming straight back up and the calibre of players we want to sign.

‘More importantly at the moment is getting those players on the retained list signed back up and agreeing new contracts.

‘At the moment I think there’s about seven or eight of us going back in for pre-season next week before they get signed on so I think that’s the important thing.

‘If we get that done, with a few high-calibre signings, we’ll have a really good chance this year.’

Syers enjoyed a good first season at the Keepmoat after signing from Bradford City last summer.

The midfielder made 38 appearances last season scoring five goals for the side.
