Doncaster Rovers couldn`t build on their win against Southend United last weekend as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic.

An early Tariqe Fosu-Henry strike was enough to separate the two sides at the Valley.

Fosu-Henry fired through a crowded penalty area from the edge of the area on 9 minutes as the Doncaster player`s backed off.

Alfie May came close to equalising for Doncaster in the first half but his effort clipped the top of the crossbar.

Tommy Rowe forced Ben Amos into a good save as his header had the keeper at full stretch.

Doncaster keeper Ian Lawlor kept his side in the game with saves from Ricky Holmes and Josh Magennis.

Doncaster enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half but they rarely threatened the Charlton goal.

The hosts came closest to scoring in the second half when a scramble in the penalty area saw Billy Clarke hit the crossbar and Doncaster throwing bodies in front of a number of Charlton efforts.

It was a bad day all-round for Doncaster with James Coppinger and Alfie May picking up injuries and John Marquis picking up his fifth yellow card of the season and he will miss the midweek clash with Portsmouth.
