Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders says he is going to lick his wounds and come back fighting next season following the clubs relegation from the championship last weekend.
Rovers were condemned to League One following the defeat to Portsmouth last Saturday and Saunders, who replaced Sean O`Driscoll as manager towards the end of September says he is ready to rebuild the side to challenge in League One next season.
Saunders was speaking on the Football League show following their 2-0 win at Coventry City on Saturday, a result that also condemned the sky blues to League One football next season. “I thought I could come in and try and keep them in the league but I haven`t managed to do it. I am going to lick my wounds and I will come back fighting. “We have to rebuild the team, the club and try and take the club forward.”
Ironically, Rovers have now collected four points from a possible six since their relegation last weekend and have kept back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since the 2009/10 season.
Rovers won at Coventry for only the second time in their history thanks to late goals from James Hayter and Simon Gillett.
