Doncaster Rovers returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Colchester United.

Rovers came into the game refreshed after missing last week`s games due to the international break and goals at the start of each half proved crucial.

David Cotterill gave Rovers the lead after just three minutes when he pounced on a poor clearance by Colchester goalkeeper Mark Cousins.

Cotterill intercepted his attempted clearance before drilling past the keeper from the edge of the area.

Colchester drew level on the half hour when Magnus Okuonghae saw his low shot creep in off the post.

Rovers restored their lead in the third minute of the second half, when Andy Bond headed Cotterill`s free kick past his own goalkeeper.

The win lifts Rovers back up into ninth place in League One with a game in hand on those sides above them.

Rovers are quickly back in action with a South Yorkshire derby at Sheffield United on Tuesday night.
