Doncaster Rovers won for the second time on penalties in the group stage of the Checkatrade Trophy as they edged past Scunthorpe United.

Doncaster won 3-2 on penalties after the game had finished 1-1 in 90 minutes.

Liam Mandeville gave Doncaster a first half lead when he steered the ball home but Clayton Lewis equalised for Scunthorpe to ensure the game went to penalties.

Scunthorpe missed three of their five penalties with Paddy Madden and Clayton Lewis putting their spot kicks over the bar and Hakeeb Adelakun had his penalty saved by Marko Marosi.

Niall Mason, Liam Mandeville and Issam Ben Khemis all converted their penalty kicks to ensure Doncaster claimed the extra point.

Despite winning one game in normal time and two on penalties in the group, Doncaster finished second to Scunthorpe in the group.
