Doncaster Rovers lost their first home game of the season against local rivals Barnsley in a South Yorkshire derby at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Despite being down to the bare bones through injury, Rovers dominated for long periods and will feel more than unlucky to come away with nothing.

Both James Hayter and Sam Hird had efforts cleared off the line in the first half and Billy Sharp had an effort ruled out for offside for the home side.

Steele made a great save to keep out Woods just before half time as it looked like only a matter of time before Rovers scored.

The second half started in the same vain, Coppinger, Shiels, Sharp and Woods all went close to opening the scoring, Shiels went closest of all when his effort rebounded off the bar.

Barnsley scored the only goal of the game in the 74th minute when Rovers failed to clear from a corner and Adam Hammill blasted in from a tight angle.

The goal deflated Rovers who never looked like equalising in the final fifteen minutes.

Rovers now entertain Peterborough on Tuesday night needing three points as they slip nearer the relegation zone.
