Doncaster Rovers got their season of to a perfect start with a 2-0 win at Preston North End.

Doncaster gave a debut to George Friend whilst Billy Sharp and Simon Gillett also started after playing for Rovers on loan last season.

Rovers started the better of the two sides and deservedly took the lead on twelve minutes.

sharp`s shot was blocked and the ball fell to O`Connor twenty yards out, whose low shot across the goal found the bottom corner.

It was soon 2-0 when Friend`s cross was met by Sharp, his shot spooned up and James Hayter was there to head in.

Preston tried their hardest to get back into the game in the second half with Paul Hayes having three good chances to get them back into the game.

The only sour note of the afternoon was when Simon Gillett was sent off for Rovers with just under fifteen minutes remaining for his second bookable offence.

Despite the dismissal nothing was going to stop a thoroughly deserved victory for Rovers on the opening day and a perfect start to the season.
