Doncaster Rovers moved into the automatic promotion places after a narrow win at the Keepmoat stadium against Oldham Athletic.

David Cotterill scored his eighth goal of the season with just over twenty minutes remaining to move Rovers level on points with leaders Tranmere Rovers.

Cotterill`s goal came after some quick thinking, when his quickly taken free kick caught Oldham goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis unaware as he sorted out his defensive wall.

The game ended ten aside with Rovers striker Iain Hume receiving a second yellow card in injury time and Oldham keeper Bouzanis receiving a straight red in the aftermath.

The two teams meet again in the FA Cup on Saturday at Boundary Park.

The win does come at a cost for Rovers. Cotterill picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and both him and Hume will miss the cup game at the weekend.

Midfielder Martin Woods will also be a doubt after going off injured in the first half and striker Billy Paynter missed the game after picking up a hamstring injury.
