Doncaster Rovers poor run continued at Bristol City when they went down to a solitary Nicky Maynard goal fourteen minutes remaining.

Rovers made one change from the side that lost to Queens Park Rangers before the international break, Mustapha Dumbuya coming in for Sam Hird.

Simon Gillett had an early chance for Rovers but his shot was straight at David James.

Nicky Maynard and Brett Pitman both had early chances for the home side that Gary Woods dealt with.

Franck Moussa then had a chance for Rovers but James came out to deny him with his legs.

Adomah then had a great chance for the home side but Woods did well to keep out his effort as the game headed towards half time.

Both sides had early chances in the second half, Marvin Elliott put a header wide for the home side whilst Moussa shot wide with just James to beat.

Elliott went close again and McAllister had a chance on goal as the home side searched for the opening goal.

Moussa looked the most likely to score for Rovers and he was once again denied by James in the Bristol goal.

Woods then produced the save of the game to deny Adomah with an acrobatic dive to his left.

Bristol broke the deadlock with just fifteen minutes remaining when Maynard steered his shot past Woods after a ball in from the right.

It was to prove the last meaningful effort on goal as it seemed to knock the stuffing out of Rovers who must have felt they deserved at least a point.

The result leaves Rovers just two places outside the relegation zone.

Sheffield United who fill the final relegation place travel to Queens Par Rangers on Monday night trying to cut the nine point gap between them and Rovers.

Rovers must now prepare for two home games in four days against Cardiff and Preston, which they must take points from to ease their relegation worries.
