After being told to find a new club by then Director of Football Mickey Walker, Ravenhill initally lined up a move to Chester City. Chester then could not afford to sign the player and the deal fell through.

Then Chester took Ricky on loan, with a view to signing him when they had the money following their cup game with Leeds and derby game with Wrexham.

However this also fell though and Ravenhill returned to Belle Vue on Wednesday with only one day to find a new club before the transfer window shut.

Late Thursday afternoon the deal with Grimsby, who had initially shown an interest during the close season, was tied up and Ricky signed a two year deal.

He will link up with former Rover Nick Fenton who recently joined Town.
