Manager Dave Penny cannot fathom the lack of consistency from Doncaster.

The 1-0 defeat to Walsall at the weekend directly following the 5-2 thumping of Barnsley – the lack of consistency is costing the team too many points.

‘If we had won against Walsall we should have been looking forward to meeting Tranmere with a chance of getting into the real top part of the table, but we just can’t get a consistent run going,’ he admitted.

‘For some reason while we have done well in the cup we have been mediocre in the league.’

Many will be hoping the Carling Cup run will continue with a win against Gillingham, but that also the form will filter through to the league and Doncaster can go for success in all directions.
