Doncaster Rovers secured their first home win in six games thanks to an early Billy Paynter penalty at the Keepmoat.

Rovers boss Dean Saunders made a number of changes to the side beaten at home by Preston North End in midweek and he was enforced into two changes at the centre of the Rovers defence.

Shelton Martis and James Husband replacing the injured Jamie McCombe and the suspended Rob Jones.

The only goal of the game came after four minutes. David Cotterill was fouled inside the area and Paynter gave Chris Weale in the Shrewsbury goal no chance from the spot.

Rovers thought they had doubled their lead before half time when David Syers hooked in from a tight angle but the assistant referee had his flag up for offside.

Shrewsbury came into the game more in the second half and Marvin Morgan missed their best chance when he headed wide from close range.

A crucial three points for Rovers that lifts them into tenth place in League One. Rovers are just three points behind fourth place, with a game in hand on the sides above them.
