Stuart Highfield, Rovers managing director explained the reasoning behind Rovers withdrawing from the reserve team league:

‘We also had a glut of fixtures at the end of the season and because the first team was so badly hit by injuries we were forced to play some embarrassingly weak sides. By pulling out of the league we will be able to play practice games – some of which could be against Premiership clubs – as and when we need to either to keep players match fit or to give players a run-out after injury. The facilities at the training ground are first class. By playing games at the training ground it means that we will also be able to entertain visiting teams better. We’ll monitor the situation next season.’
