Doncaster Rovers made the perfect start to the busy festive period with a crucial win at Bristol Rovers.
Niall Mason eased Doncaster`s relegation worries as he scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the first half, for a first win in four league games.
Doncaster owed much to goalkeeper Ian Lawlor as he kept Doncaster in the game. Lawlor did well to deny Billy Bodin from close range and then Liam Sercombe fired just wide from the edge of the area.
Mason fired Doncaster ahead from the penalty spot just past the half hour after Ryan Sweeney had fouled Tommy Rowe in the area.
Mason made no mistake, as he smashed the ball into the roof of the net, and score his first professional goal in his 69th appearance.
Lawlor continued to thwart the home side and he did well twice to deny Rory Gaffney.
Ben Whiteman came off the bench for Doncaster in the final 20 minutes and the on loan Sheffield United twice went close to sealing the points. He shot straight at Adam Smith before seeing another effort deflected wide.
Bristol Rovers thought they had earned a late point when they scrambled the ball home from close range but the assistant referee ruled that the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.
