Doncaster Rovers secured a 1-0 win at ten-man Bury on Saturday as they ended the month on a high note in League One.
Ben Whiteman came off the bench to score the only goal of the game with 12 minutes remaining after Bury had been forced to play the entire second half with ten-men after Eoghan O’Connell was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half time for bringing down Doncaster striker John Marquis on the edge of the area.
Whiteman scored from just inside the area after Bury failed to clear a Doncaster cross. The on loan Sheffield United midfielder netted his fourth goal of the month with a left foot shot.
It was a rare win for Doncaster at Bury having only won on five of their 30 previous visits and it was the first time they have denied Bury from scoring in this fixture in Lancashire.
It also makes it nine points from a possible fifteen in October for Doncaster, as they finally start to settle down to life in League One.
