Doncaster Rovers slipped a step nearer to League One after their 3-1 home defeat to Birmingham City.

Rovers are now four points from safety with just six games remaining and have now played one more game than those sides around them at the foot of the table.

Frederic Piquionne gave Rovers the perfect start when he headed them ahead after just four minutes.

Birmingham were level within ten minutes when David Murphy headed home for the visitors.

Rovers missed two good chances early in the second half to restore their lead. El Hadji Diouf fired over and Simon Gillett saw his shot saved by Boaz Myhill.

They were made to pay for their misses. Chris Burke fired Birmingham ahead just past the hour with a shot from just outside the area and Marlon King wrapped things up when he found himself unmarked just inside the penalty area.

Another disappointing result that brings to an end a run of nine games during the month of March, which has seen them win just one.
