Doncaster Rovers conceded twice in injury time as inform Rotherham United came from behind to secure the South Yorkshire bragging rights in a 2-1 win.

Doncaster looked well set to record a first win at Rotherham in 13 attempts after John Marquis had given them a first half lead. The game went from bad to worse in the second half, as two serious injuries were followed by two goals in injury time, including the winner from the penalty spot in the 13th of those added minutes.

Michael Smith equalised for the millers in the third minute of injury time and then Joe Newell scored the winner for Rotherham from the spot after Doncaster keeper Marko Marosi had brought down Smith.

Rotherham came into the game unbeaten since early December and on the back of a six-match winning run and they had the first opportunity when Semi Ajayi headed wide.

Tom Anderson had an early chance for Doncaster but Marek Rodak in the Rotherham goal saved his header.

Rotherham had more chances with Newell and Smith both heading wide.

Doncaster went ahead six-minutes before the break when good pressing by Alex Kiwomya and John Marquis forced Ajayi into a mistake. Kiwomya set up Marquis who smashed the ball home from the edge of the area.

Things started to go wrong for Doncaster early in the second half when Anderson was involved in a Collison and after lengthy treatment, the on loan Burnley defender was stretchered from the field.

Rotherham were causing Doncaster problems from set-pieces and Will Vaulks and David Ball heading wide.

Alfie Beestin was the next Doncaster player to leave the game prematurely when he was forced off with what looked like a serious leg injury.

Rotherham continued to press and Doncaster substitute Joe Wright made a last-ditch block to deny Richie Towell.

With twelve minutes of injury time shown, Rotherham continued to press and they eventually got their equaliser. A deep free-kick by Newell found Smith in the area and he headed beyond Marosi.

Despite the disappointment of conceding in injury time, it looked like Doncaster were going to come away with a creditable point until the twelfth minute of stoppage time when Marosi was adjudged to have brought down Smith in the area.

Newell stepped up to send Marosi the wrong way from the penalty spot to win the game for Rotherham and leave Doncaster crestfallen.
