Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says he will be looking to bring in two central defenders before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

Ferguson lost a third central defender in three games on Saturday after Joe Wright suffered broken ribs and he joins fellow central defenders Andy Butler and Mathieu Baudry to be ruled out in the past three games.

The Doncaster boss says he has already been busy trying to bring in replacements but he admits it is not easy in January.

“It is difficult in January,” Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“A lot of questions we have asked clubs, a lot of the time they have said no.

“A lot of the time it has been because they want permanent transfer so we have already had three or four no`s.

“You have your targets but it is very difficult at this time of the season to get players in.

“I have funds available and we thought that would bring one centre half in.

“We haven`t spoken yet but I will have to be creative because we clearly need two.”

One piece of good news for Doncaster is both Luke McCullough and Alex Kiwomya are both set to be available for the first team next weekend after coming through another development squad game on Saturday.

The pair are yet to play this season and the return of McCullough is a timely boost for Doncaster with the Northern Ireland international able to play in the centre of defence.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Wednesday 31st January.
