Two early goals ensured Doncaster Rovers three points against Portsmouth.

Liam Mandeville gave Doncaster a third minute lead when he turned home a Rodney Kongolo cross and just three minutes later, it was 2-0 when Tommy Rowe`s header deflected off Christian Burgess.

Portsmouth were given a lifeline early in the second half in bizarre circumstances. Ian Lawlor misjudged a back pass from Mathieu Baudry and the ball went under the keeper`s foot and across the line despite his attempts to keep the ball out.

The visitors hopes of claiming something from the game were made harder with just over twenty minutes remaining when Dion Donohue was sent off for an off the ball incident with Niall Mason.

Portsmouth did almost claim a point in injury time but Lawlor made up for his earlier mistake with a fantastic save to deny Jamal Lowe.
