Sheffield United have turned down an offer from Doncaster Rovers for striker Billy Sharp.

The offer, reported to be a club record was deemed not enough by United according to Rovers Chairman John Ryan.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Ryan said, ‘I’m disappointed. We will have to wait and see what happens.
‘All we can do is make offers. It was certainly the biggest bid Doncaster Rovers have made for a player.’

Sharp enjoyed a highly successful season long loan at Doncaster last season scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances.

The striker joined the Blades in the summer of 2007 in a £2 million deal but struggled to find the goalscoring form he enjoyed at his previous club Scunthorpe.

Ryan stated that Rovers will not be making Sheffield an improved offer, when asked he said, ‘Not at this stage, no. I think we pushed the boat out a bit with that offer.”

The 24 year old is in the last year of his contract at Sheffield and they risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season.
