Billy Sharp was determined to sign for Doncaster Rovers this summer according to Sheffield United chief executive Trevor Birch.

Speaking on Sheffield United`s official website, Birch said, “After discussions with his agent that Billy would not sign a new contract and was determined to return to Doncaster.”

Sharp was in the final year of his contract at Sheffield United and as been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane all summer with Burnley, Doncaster and Leeds leading the chase according to reports.

The 24-year-old who scored 15 goals in 35 appearances last season whilst on a season long loan at Doncaster from Sheffield United, recently turned down a move to last season`s Premier League side Burnley after the two clubs had agreed a deal.

Sharp has signed a three-year deal at the Keepmoat and signs for a club record transfer fee paid of £1.15 million.
