Rovers went into May happily positioned in mid table and a positive result on the final day could have seen them finish in the top half.
Doncaster finished the Championship season at Champions Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rovers once again gave the champions a tough afternoon after losing to them rather unluckily in December. Rovers made a number of chances to win the game but lost to the only goal of the game in injury time when Richard Steadman rose at the far post to beat Neil Sullivan in the Rovers goal.
Rovers finished the season in fourteenth place in their first season back in the Championship for fifty years.
The second half of the season saw a remarkable turn of fortunes for the club after they looked odds on favourites for relegation at Christmas.
On Christmas Day Rovers were rock bottom having only accumulated eighteen points, what was more worrying was the fact that they had only scored eleven goals (seven of those were away from home).
In the second half of the season they finished only second to Sheffield United in the form stakes accumulating fourty points in their final twenty two games.
Over the season Rovers achieved a number of firsts for the club, they enjoyed their first ever doubles over Derby County and Ipswich Town.
The recorded their first ever home League win over Sheffield Wednesday along with first ever away wins at Southampton, Sheffield United, Blackpool, Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic.
Rovers will be hoping to build on their solid start to life back in the Championship in their second season.
