Scunthorpe United boss Brian Laws says they have turned down a bid from Doncaster Rovers for midfielder Mark Duffy.

The 26-year-old impressed when the two sides met at Glanford Park in March and he scored with a superb strike in the game.

Duffy could be looking to play at an higher level following Scunthorpe`s relegation to League Two but Laws says the offer made by Rovers was well below their asking price.

Speaking in the Scunthorpe Telegraph , Laws said, “We`ve received an offer from Doncaster, which was well under the valuation which we are expecting.

“We`re not in a position where we`re going to allow players to leave for next to nothing.

“We`ve paid money for him and we at least expect that back.

“No doubt about it, he had his best year since he`s been at the football club last season. He`s improved while he`s been there.

“And if someone improves you expect to get better money back.

“Doncaster`s valuation was way below ours.”

A number of clubs are reportedly interested in the former Morecambe midfielder. Barnsley, Sheffield United and MK Dons are also keen on signing Duffy according to reports.

New Rovers boss Paul Dickov is yet to make a signing since taking over at the Keepmoat last month.
