Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders says it is a bit like playing poker at the moment as he tries to put his squad together for next season.

Saunders has already seen a host of players released by the club having come to the end of their contracts, although he has admitted he would like to offer new deals to some.

As well as trying to bring in new players, he is also expected to have to sell some of his contracted players to reduce the wage bill following the clubs relegation from the Championship.

Saunders admits he is busy and he will be hoping to announce some new signings shortly.

Speaking on the official website, Saunders said, ‘I’m trying to bring in the best players I can within the budget I have.

‘I’ve spoken to several more this week and some are out of our price range when it comes to wages, so it’s a case of persuading them this is the best place for them to come and further their careers.

‘It feels a bit like playing poker at the moment and waiting for all the cards to fall into place. We have set our sights high and hopefully we will be in a position to announce something soon.’

Saunders squad will return for pre-season training early in July as they prepare for the new season that kicks off on August 18th.

The fixtures for the 2012/13 season will be announced on Monday June 18th at 9am.
