Doncaster Rovers manager Dean Saunders and club consultant (football agent) Willie McKay spent last Sunday scouting in France according to the Doncaster Free Press.

The duo were reportedly in France looking at players to recruit during the January transfer window, in what the Free Press claimed was a ‘major transfer raid`.

Agent McKay is at the club as a consultant, who will be looking to bring high profile players to the club who are currently not playing in their respective first teams. By giving them the opportunity to join Doncaster, it is seen as a stepping-stone for the players to put them in the shop window and a possible transfer away from their parent club.

McKay is linked with a number of top-flight clubs in France and it is believed he is working with Lyon, Auxerre, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Nice and Lorient.

Since Saunders and McKay arrived at the club at the end of September they have already brought in a number of high profile players with both Premier League and international experience.

Pascal Chimbonda, Herita Ilunga, Chris Kirkland and El Hadji Diouf have arrived at the club.

Former England international goalkeeper Kirkland had to return to his parent club Wigan Athletic after just one game through injury. He was replaced this week by another experienced goalkeeper in Carl Ikeme from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
