Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders is expecting to lose a number of his first team squad in the summer following their relegation from the championship.
The clubs longest serving player James Coppinger is likely to be high on the wish list of a number of championship clubs. Rovers turned down an offer from Ipswich Town last summer but Saunders feels clubs will come in for him along with a number of his squad.
Speaking after the final game of the season at the weekend, Saunders said, ‘He’s got two years left (on his contract). I would imagine some clubs will come in for him. I’d imagine some clubs will come in for George (Friend), Tommy Spurr – lots of them.
‘And some of the ones out of contract that I’d like to keep, we’ve let their contracts run out so if they go it’s our fault. They’re going to have other options.
‘I’ll have to just keep juggling. There’s some that I really don’t want to go, but if a Championship club comes in and offers them more money I can’t really stop them.’
As well as losing a number of first team players, the players brought in by agent Willie McKay have also come to the end of their short-term deals at the Keepmoat Stadium.
