Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders said he felt the game should have been all over by half time after defeating Shrewsbury Town 1-0 at the Keepmoat.
Rovers won 1-0 thanks to an early Billy Paynter penalty and Saunders felt with the amount of possession his side had in the first half it could have been all over. Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Saunders said, ‘I thought we played brilliantly first half, scored a great goal, probably should have finished the game off in the first half with the amount of possession we had around their box.
‘Then the second half was the complete opposite, we just couldn’t keep the ball.
‘We just had too many players out there who haven’t played, aren’t match fit and second half it showed.
‘I’m just pleased to have the points in the bag while I’m building the team.’
David Syers came closest to doubling Rovers lead in the first half but his shot was ruled out for offside.
Shrewsbury came into the game in the second half and Marvin Morgan missed the visitor`s best chance when he headed wide from close range.
The games continue to come thick and fast for Rovers. Chesterfield visit the Keepmoat on Tuesday night in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy, Rovers first appearance in the competition since 2008.
