Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan is hoping to see five or six players brought into the club before the new season with the defence the main priority.
Rovers released defenders Byron Webster and Wayne Thomas at the end of the season and Sam Hird and James Chambers are yet to sign new deals after being offered new contracts, after their current deals ended at the end of last season.
Ryan speaking in the Doncaster Star said, “We are looking to bring in five or six new players but the main priority at the moment is defenders.
“We`ve got a lot of irons in the fire but nothing definite yet.
“We`ve identified the players we`d like and we are hopeful but you never know with players. We`ve mainly spoken to the player`s agents.
“But other clubs are also interested in them and it`s what I call the silly season.
“We are trying to get a couple of the deals, notably the defenders, sorted out early on.
Rovers have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday defender Tommy Spurr recently and are also rumoured to be interested in bringing Joseph Mills back to the club after the Southampton defender enjoyed a lengthy loan spell at the Keepmoat last season.
