Doncaster Rovers are set to sign West Ham striker Frederic Piquionne on loan for the remainder of the season according to SkySports.com.

Rovers were thwarted in their attempts earlier this year to sign the experienced striker but Rovers boss Dean Saunders now says the deal has gone ahead.

Speaking on SkySports.com, Saunders said, ‘I would like to thank Sam Allardyce and David Sullivan for allowing Frederic to come on loan to Doncaster.’

Rovers saw leading goalscorer Billy Sharp leave the club during the January transfer window and they are looking for a striker to spearhead their survival fight having netted just five times in the five games since his departure..

The 33 year old has seen his chances limited at West Ham this season and he looks to be even further down the pecking order at Upton Park following the signings of strikers Ricardo Vaz Te and Nicky Maynard in January.

He has made 21 appearances for West Ham this season, scoring just two goals and he has featured just once so far in 2012 when he played against Nottingham Forest on January 21st.

Rovers have already had defender Herita Ilunga on loan this season from West Ham with the London club paying the vast majority of his wages.
