Doncaster Rover have been left disappointed after Jason Shackell signed for near neighbours and fellow Championship side Barnsley on a three year contract.

Shackell spent the whole of the 2009/10 on loan at Doncaster from Wolves making and they were hopeful of signing the central defender this summer.

Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll was left disappointed when he heard the news, speaking on the official website, O`Driscoll said, ‘We agreed a fee with Wolves and we’d spoken to Jason’s agent and things were going ahead so the fact that he’s signed for Barnsley is disappointing,’

The 26 year old made 21 appearances for Rovers during the season scoring one goal.

His season was cut short when he required surgery on a hernia injury after suffering the injury towards the end of January at Derby County in the FA Cup.
