Doncaster Rovers have made their first signing of the summer bringing in George Friend from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The left back has signed a two-year deal after being released by the Premiership club.

The 22 year old started his career at Exeter City and helped the Grecians back into the Football League in 2008.

The versatile player can play at either left back, centre back or on the left side of midfield.

He was snapped up by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the opening weeks of the 2008/09 season for a fee believed to be in the region of £350,000 and went on to make six appearances in the sides championship winning season.

Friend made just the one appearance for the club in the Premiership when he was part of the side put out by boss Mick McCarthy for the clubs trip to Manchester United. The game landed the club in hot water with the Premier League for put out an under strength side.

With first team opportunity limited at Wolves he spent time out on loan at former club Exeter as well as Millwall, Southend and Scunthorpe.

Friend will link up with the rest of the squad when the players return to training at the start of July.
