Doncaster Rovers have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Luke McCullough will miss the start of the season.
The defender faces a lengthy spell out of the side with a knee injury he picked up at the end of last season during a training camp with Northern Ireland.
McCullough missed most of last season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury during pre-season and it is a blow for him and manager Darren Ferguson ahead of the new season.
“Luke definitely won`t make the start of the season,” Ferguson told The Sheffield Star.
“He had a scan on Tuesday and he`s got a problem with his knee. We got the results of the scan just before the Armthorpe game.
“It`s a real disappointing one for us and we don`t know exactly how long it will be.
“But it`s not going to be short.
“It`s a blow for everyone but more so for the boy obviously.”
McCullough only returned to the Doncaster squad at the back end of last season, featuring in seven of the clubs last eight league games.
Fellow defenders Craig Alcock and Mathieu Baudry missed the opening pre-season game of the season at Armthorpe Welfare in midweek but Ferguson says the pair will return to the squad in the near future.
